Partner Stretching

By Anthony Fong

If you are looking to add variety to your stretching programme, why not try stretching with a partner to improve flexibility. Whether you have a training partner at the gym or train with teammates in your sport, enjoy the benefits of gaining greater range of motion with the following upper and lower body stretches!

1)      Shoulder Joint

Figure 1 – Partner in front has arms straight behind with palms up and pushes down while partner behind holds the tension by supporting the wrists.

Figure 2 – After releasing the tension, partner behind lifts up the arms to a higher angle while making sure the front partners back is straight.

Quadriceps

Figure 3 – Front partner lying face down with one leg bent while partner behind pushes the heel towards the backside. A padded support is placed under the front partner’s quadricep in order to focus on stretching the upper quadricep muscles.

Hip and Spinal Twist

Figure 4 – Partner lying on back with one leg straight and other leg bent across body and shoulders flat on floor with arms out wide. Other partner applies pressure to bent knee to produce rotation to spine and lengthening hip/it band while keeping opposite shoulder flat on ground.
